animated star trails

animations

This was taken as part of a trip to Swinsty Reservoir near Harrogate, the pole star is hidden behind the one tree but you can clearly see where all the stars circle around it. This is using the comet tails function in Starstax

Circumpolar trails at Thornwick Bay, Flamborough. Using the Samyang 12mm f2.8 which gives a 180 degree diagonal field of view it is easy to get circular star motion as long as Polaris (pole star) is in the field of view

The arches of Ribblehead Viaduct make a nice foreground feature against the backdrop of comet tail star trails, the moon that was rising during the night created some nice lighting as well

Using the water of the reservoir creates some star trail reflections, also visible are some aircraft trails which don’t follow the same direction as the stars

The animated trails of the stars and the lights of traffic going by on the road makes an interesting comparison of different light trails

The beginning of this animated star trail was just as the moon was starting to rise, it’s lighting effect becomes apparent during the clip by the movement of the shadows

Looking through the arches of Ribblehead Viaduct with the commemorative monument in the foreground. The red flashes are occasions when I was moving around with my head torch on

More trails over Swinsty Reservoir, the milky effect on the water is from when there were ripples in the water during the night

Circumpolar star trails at Fewston Reservoir using gap filling rather than comet tail star trails in Starstax

Looking down into Nidd Gorge from the top of the viaduct, the river is usually fairly calm here so it’s easy to see the star trails build up in the reflections in the water as well as in the sky

One of effects of using a fisheye lens like the Samyang 12mm f2.8 is that it allows full circumpolar star trails, but also if you tilt it up or down it can distort the landscape giving the area an interesting perspective

I was using the puddle in the foreground to get some reflections at Ribblehead Viaduct but it started freezing over during the sequence, it gave an interesting effect nonetheless

The river in Nidd Gorge being very calm gives a perfect reflection of the viaduct and you can just make out the reflections of the star trails in the water

I went to Brimham Rocks  again on  Tuesday 7th to  shoot some time lapse and star trails

This was taken during a trip to a wind farm at  Knabs Ridge near Harrogate, North Yorkshire

360 degree animated star trail taken with my Insta360 One X2 at Knabs Ridge Wind Farm

Taken in June on a revisit to Swinsty reservoir in North Yorkshire

While at Brimham Rocks I was experimenting with my Insta360 One X2 camera and these are the results, quite interesting!

This was from the same trip to Knabs Ridge taken with a wider angle lens
